Organizing: The Submission Guide

Protest Magazine Submission Guide

Today I told myself I had no business moving across country on my own, no business considering a career in writing and definitely none in starting a magazine. Self-doubt and impostor syndrome have told me to play it safe, but I’ve done that and it hasn’t lead me anywhere I want to be. I have no business playing it safe- the image above offers guidelines to keep in mind when submitting work but in no way does it mean to take a safe route. Protest Magazine is a platform for femme/women of color to detail their experiences in, whether they are the cherished or the haunting ones, they are moments that need to be told. These experiences make up stories you may not have gotten the chance to tell. Our personal stories may resonate with our sisters living miles away, our words and images have the power to validate and comfort each other.

Protest is a welcoming platform for black and brown women to express themselves, it is space for us to exist in when we’ve felt excluded from everywhere else. The community of Protest Magazine cannot exist until we create it, If you’re ready to submit or pitch ideas, you can email us at inquire@protestmagazine.com. Keep in mind the theme of the first issue is healing and forgiveness in women, take this idea and explore it the way you see fit. If you’re interested in being apart of the first issue and issues to come but have more questions, we’d love to hear from you, too.
